 Hundreds of computer science degree holders and IT techies, who have lost jobs amid the pandemic, have urged Education Minister Govind Thakur to do away with the condition of a five-year experience for recruitment as PGT (informatics practices) in schools. The previous Congress government had in 2017 advertised 1,191 posts of  computer science degree jobs  (IP). However, the appointments could not be made as the matter had been pending in the State Administrative Tribunal (since abolished) and the High Court. The jobless youths rued that the government did not made any efforts to expedite the matter. They said there was no such condition when 767 posts were filled in 2012. However, this condition was introduced in 2017, probably to make backdoor entries, they alleged.  On Friday (21 August), virtual education platform Lambda School announced that it has raised $74m for its online coding and computer science courses. The Series C investment round was led by Gigafund, which has previously backed Elon Musk’s SpaceX. Lambda School’s CEO and co-founder, Austen Allred, said that the funding comes at an urgent time, with the economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and a forced “reckoning” in education. “This new financing will support our mission to unlock student potential, regardless of circumstance, by developing career-oriented educational jobs with computer science degree  and reducing the financial risks to pursuing a better career,” he added.   Tilford Ray (Ted) Richardson, 80, died peacefully at home under hospice care, after an extended illness, on August 4. He was a well-known fixture in the Northern Kentucky Business Community for many decades and was founder of the Cardinal Engineering Corporation and later Cardinal Laboratories, Windsor Properties, and other companies. He spent the last 30 years dealing in commercial real estate with Stratford Development and other companies. Ann Arbor-based Censys announced that it raised $15.5 million in its latest round of funding and has developed a new platform that scans 44% more of the Internet than its competitors.  The engine works by quickly finding security vulnerabilities in a company’s online assets. This lets companies make risk assessments and Censys recommends remediation so companies can protect themselves from security breaches. Censys CEO and co-founder David Corcoran said that Censys aims to make security issues more visible for its clients.  He said that jobs with computer science degree  has been researching based on its experiences since 2012.
